Who we are
Mr Leak of 14 Russell Square, Brighton, East Sussex BN1 2EE is the data controller for personal data collected through this website and in the course of providing our services. You can reach us at [email protected] or 01273 936 030.
What we collect
Your name, phone number, email address, the address and postcode of the property, and what you tell us about the problem, whether you contact us through this website, the website chat, by email or by phone. If you become a customer, we also hold the findings of the survey, photographs taken during the work, and invoicing and payment records.
Why we use it, and on what legal basis
- To respond to your enquiry and carry out the work: necessary to take steps at your request before entering a contract, and then to perform that contract.
- To produce reports for your insurer where you ask us to: performing our contract with you.
- To keep accounting and tax records: a legal obligation.
- To keep website chats, for quality assurance and a record of what was discussed and agreed, to prevent misuse of the website chat, and to defend a complaint or claim: our legitimate interests in training our team, checking the quality of our service and keeping accurate records of our work.
Marketing
We may email our customers, people who have enquired, and businesses we work with or would like to work with (such as letting agents and property managers) about our services. For businesses, we use the names, roles and business contact details of the people who run them, from public sources such as Companies House and the business’s own website, on the basis of our legitimate interests in promoting our services.
You can object to marketing at any time, free of charge, by using the unsubscribe link in any of our emails or by emailing [email protected], and we will stop.
Who we share it with
Your insurer or loss adjuster where you ask us to produce a report; a managing agent or freeholder where the work concerns a shared building and you ask us to liaise with them; our accountants and professional advisers; and the service providers who host our website and email, provide our telephone and website chat services and process card payments, who act on our instructions.
How long we keep it
Enquiries and website chats are deleted after twelve months unless they relate to work we carry out. Records of completed work are kept for six years from completion. Accounting records are kept for the period HMRC requires. Business contact details used for marketing are kept while we market to that business, and removed if you object, apart from a note so that we do not contact you again.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, to have inaccurate data corrected, to ask for data to be erased or its use restricted, to object to processing based on legitimate interests, and to receive certain data in a portable format. Email [email protected] and we will respond within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113.
